My Friend's Studio

There is a sign on one of the wall in my friend's studio - 'The History of a Suit' - that is the most interesting exposition. It says that in England in fourteenth century merchants were wearing flamboyant clothes, wool hats and boots with laces and, besides, they grew beards that have two ends. It was an essential part of their appearance. Sailors had got a very wide and thick jacket that went up to knees and a sward on the side. Doctors were assigned to wear navy clothes made from taffeta and thick fabric and, as for clerks, they were dressed into multicolored, striped or two colored clothes with a very expensive belt in silver cover.

Evolution was outlined the tendency of eighteenth century - ladies had to follow the definite color of dresses with long tails. Later middle class became leaders and started dictating its style, features and tastes to society. Men's suits turned into black, grey or navy color, atlas and gold-cloth disappeared and new forms of dresses were suggested. Formal dresses started to win the stage; a bit later a jacket, a waistcoat and trousers. They seemed similar for everyone but it's a mistake to think so. Be sure, they are very different - for example, a bank clerk or a businessman is wearing a glamorous suit with a high price. Others prefer cheap suit that can be found online every day. Generally, the creation of new style is a challenge for designers and manufactures. Each year my friend's studio is fulfilled with a new collection that he gathers along the whole world. It is possible to make a conclusion - mode is a social phenomenon, part of social life and people should take it into consideration. It is truly amazing to watch the evolution of a suit, a dress or a shoe. Mode is the reflection of our inner world and we cannot neglect it.
